Measure for a Collar |

| When measuring your dog for a collar, be sure to use a tape measure to get the circumference of the neck (B). It is important to measure the pet's neck instead of their collar, for accuracy.
Measure all the way around the midpoint of the neck, halfway between the head and the base of the neck. We recommend for small breeds that you allow 1 finger to slide comfortably between the tape measure and the dog's neck. For dogs over 40 lbs., and especially large breeds, allow for 2 fingers to slide easily between the tape measure and the dog's neck. |

Measure for a Harness |
|
When measuring your dog for a harness, be sure to use a tape measure to get the circumference of the chest (C). This is often also referred to as the Girth. Measure all the way around the largest part of the chest, behind the front legs. (You may find it helpful to use a piece of string to take this measurement and tie it around the largest part of the chest then cut it off and measure from end to end.) It is important for you to order the size that will fit around your dog's girth, but not be too lose. While collars need to be a bit lose, the benefit of a harness is lost when it is too loose.
Keep in mind that most of the harnesses are adjustable. When you receive it, try it on your dog and adjust as-needed. |

Choose the Width |
|
Dogs Under 40 lbs. - 5/8" or 1/2" Width
Fine for puppies and small breeds.
Dogs Over 40 lbs. up to 69 lbs. - 3/4" to 1 inch Width
Most of our collars for dogs this weight come in the 1 inch width. Lupine collars do come in a 3/4" width in the adjustable clip collar and the martingale style closure.
Dogs Over 70 lbs. - 1.5" Width*
Certainly dogs under 70 lbs. can wear a 1.5" collar for style. Greyhounds and Whippets are an example, and it is your choice if you want them in a 1.5" or 2" wide collar.
Dogs over 85 lbs. - 2" Width*
If you prefer to have your large dog in a collar, we recommend a Martingale style collar, described below. You may want to consider a No Pull Harness or a Freedom Harness for walking with more control, or use the Martingale collar. We do not recommend that dogs wear Martingale collars in the house, since they are a gentle choke collar and can catch on things in the house or on the dog. Do not leave a dog unattended in a Martingale collar. |
